Omkara School Of Indian Dance caters to students of all levels through the following classes: beginners, intermediate, senior, special and private classes.
For class timings please click here.
New students are very welcome and will be assessed and placed into the appropriate level class by the teacher. Omkara encourages perseverance and requests all new students to commit to Omkara for a minimum of one full year once joined. It is strongly advised that students stay with the same group and not miss classes as it is easy to fall behind and catching up may require extra classes to be booked.
Receive a thorough and complete initiation into this beautiful South Indian art form. Learn about body dynamics and use of space, and familiarise yourself with the Bharata Natyam ‘alphabet’ (adavus), minor limb movements (bhedas), and hand gestures (mudras).
Intermediate (medium) Classes
Begin garlanding the building blocks of Bharata Natyam together and practice synchronising your body and mind to music through simple dance pieces. Discover the emotive power of abhinaya, mimetic dance, through stories from Indian mythology.
Master the finer emotions and nuances of mimetic dance (abhinaya) and Bharata Natyam technique (nritta) through more intricate and demanding pieces like varnam, thillana, and javali.
If you’re a dancer with over 6 years training and in Geneva only for a short time, why not get some extra training or support in abhinaya and nritta, or learn a new item by requesting a special class. Get In Touch.
Prefer learning one on one instead? Private classes are available at Sfr. 80 / hour. Get In Touch.
